In the first case, terrorism comes to Edmo and, of course, it could have been much worse. Edmontonians, by and large, were dumb-lucky.Now the awareness is there that this kind of thing could happen anywhere and anytime in Katzville/McDavidville.
Re. Vegas, well, just another in a regular, recurring series of senseless mass murders. America is more well-armed than any country and there are always ‘loose screws’ running around. This is one of the regular ways in which man’s violence and craziness combined manifests itself in newsworthy, significant ways. Sufficiently random in terms of who gets taken out, but planned and obsessed for some time before execution.
Regardless of what strides Western civilization has taken, this truism will always try to assert itself in absurd, pointless moments of hate like these two on the weekend. The biggest obsession of all, repeatedly, is the goal of the daily nutcase to take out a maximum of live human beings to show what a ‘Big Man’ and ‘Powerful, Significant Force’ he was. A sickness waiting to happen elsewhere later again and again.
