People Are More Honest Than You Think

With all the U.S. news today about wiretapping, bribery, lies, collusion, fixed elections, and treason, it is always refreshing to run into good people out there.

Yesterday I left $80 in my bank’s instant teller. On a whim, I went back and talked to my advisor’s assistant who checked with staff from yesterday. Lo and behold , the money was turned back in. And that’s the way it often goes, so I find. These things are worth checking on. Previously, I had left a card in the machine several years ago and checked back to find that someone had turned it in. “Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you.”

I am always pleasantly surprised by the honesty and goodness of others in times of trouble and widespread negative press. Never count others out. It’s enough to restore one’s faith in humanity.

(One good deed deserves another. I will leave $20 and a Thank You card for whomever turned the money in. It will make their day as much as their thoughtfulness, kindness, unselfishness, and non-greediness has made mine.)
