On my Canadian mug with dozens of names,

The only names you still hear in the news are Margaret Atwood and Terry Fox. The main reason why you hear Atwood’s name is because of The Handmaid’s Tale tv series.

As a writer, I much prefer the writing style and syntax of Alice Munro (also still alive) who won the Nobel Prize and has been called the “Canadian Chekhov” of short stories.
