is a wonderful baroque orchestra started back in T.O. in 1979 that plays on period instruments. There dynamic 85+ recordings and 80 concerts a year have made them world-famous. I would highly recommend their Galileo Project: Music of the Spheres which they have performed live with visuals and their beautiful, entertaining House of Dreams (CD-DVD combo) production. Also noteworthy are their Beethoven Symphonies No. 7 & 8 in another CD/DVD package (with them rehearsing and playing live) and the 1st 4 CDs of the Telemann Edition CD box (they play his music excellently).
I first saw the group in the ’80s at Convo Hall, U of A and was knocked out by their intense period sound. The group has tremendous integrity, playing skill, and a unique approach to Baroque music. If you are looking for the best in Canadian classical music, look no further than the titles above and/or check out one of the group’s memorable live performances.
