Putin Mind Games: Major Doublethink

Russia has been very good at this propagandizing throughout the years. Today we hear that Russia is going to “officially declare war” on Ukraine after committing its evil, vicious genocide on Ukraine for over a month.

Let me see if I’ve got this right. Nothing has been going on since Russia, unprovoked, started its irrational, illegal attacks on Ukraine which quickly turned into genocide. So what we’ve been seeing is “peace”, not war in the daily reporting from Ukraine. People haven’t been getting raped, tortured, blown-up, and imprisoned. That has not and never has happened. It’s only now (?) that Russia is going to war with Ukraine. What does that mean exactly ? Bring on the nukes or what?

The Poem-a-Day Series, Poem #23

(a long-time interest in the remote…)

I’ve written several poems about the North; winter has long been a condition or part-inner state of my sensibility. There is something telling about remote northern regions reflecting inner solitude and as much personal freedom as possible (no limits). This, then, is a signature poem about me and some kind of starting point for getting to know me better. Davies ‘country’, sort of.

The Poem-a-Day Series, Poem #22

(the “old man”, lower of the two faces, but take your pick!)

(the “bowl” below)

(the rainbow)

Nothing quite like Athabasca Falls and more than worth a visit if you make it to Jasper. By the time you see stanza 3, things have gotten as out of control as they get here 24/7. And weather permitting, if you’re on the south side of the falls, you will, indeed, see the rainbow. So this site has terror and beauty, both worth a boo.

Latest invasion: As EPCOR rolls into our cul-de-sac tomorrow

to tear up lawns, driveways; blocking roads with trucks, and who knows what else, for 5 days (sure thing).
A dollop of Sunday sanity to start May:

(vivacious music by Vivaldi)

and my wife’s early anniversary gift to me:

(the master of light/ing via room windows)

and my gift to her:

(commemorating our daily dose of 1-2 episodes of BBC’s delightful series Escape to the Country)

Last year it was the Telus fibre-optic installations (we refused because of their attitude and heavy-handedness). Now it’s EPCOR fooling around with electrical lines–the latest onslaught. War continues in the suburbs, too.

Deja Vu: Speaking of GOP Book Burnings

starting up–shades of the Nazi book burnings–which inspired Ray Bradbury to write Fahrenheit 451, which I taught back in 1972-75 to grade 10s.
