Re. Dogs:

There is nothing more touching and impressive than their trust, loyalty, and love toward their owners.

Nothing like going for mail

and seeing an unmoving 30ish man lying strangely flat-out on a house front-step, either dead or unconscious (no blood), not responding to my several loud calls for him to rouse himself.

Anyway, we drove home and called paramedics who were arriving when we returned to the house.

He was eventually stretchered, still ‘out’, onto an ambulance, not ‘waking up’, though an arm may have moved slightly.

Just another absurd, bizarro afternoon in the Edmo ‘burbs.

Columbo Finale, 2003, Age 75

The last show, “Columbo Likes the Night Life” is a strong finale to a long, entertaining career going back to the early 1970s (when I was finishing university). He retired at the top of his game (a year after I retired from teaching).

It is dazzling image-wise and sound-wise, and features several rave club scenes, strong male and female villains, the usual Columbo trademark humor, a funny interview with a hotel maid about a toilet, a Mafia henchman, an accidental death, a nasty murder, koi fish, and a high-tech resolution. Well-directed and acted. A good script and atmosphere. Not to be missed.

(Falk, incidentally, lived 8 more years after the series.)
