Definition of youthful naivete:

Me at 15-16, advertising in the local paper to do odd jobs, then getting a grass-cutting job for a woman with just an old push-mower for a large overgrown back lawn about 7 inches long.
I lasted less than an hour, with blisters on my gloveless hands.
Should never have cordially replied “Yes”.

……………………………

Further adventure: I hadn’t learned much by 20, during u on a 1-day summer job, when I was up on the roof of an old filling station slowly burning off old roof tiles with some kind of tar gun while the 2 private biz owners, who lived together in an unfinished  basement with a pregnant girlfriend, sat nonchalantly drinking coffee across the street in a cafe.
I quit early that aft.
There was another huge gaffe about that time: going to work at Norwood Auxillary Hospital in the summer as an orderly. Quickly realizing all the male patients were much larger than my 145-150 lbs on day 1 and quitting after lifting several, again, in the afternoon.
It was Eastwood, in a Dirty Harry, who said “A man’s got to know his limitations.”

A Very Impressive Alberta Indigenous Advocate

Vee Duncan, a long-time homeless, former addict who walked a shopping cart from Calgary to Edmonton to bring attention to indigenous mental health and homelessness. His slogan: “Pulling for Change”. Duncan says he is “asking for a better self because of my addiction and my upbringing, I’m relearning how to live properly, I don’t know how else to put it.” Unfortunately so far, this indigenous role-model is not getting the amount of press coverage his significant positive choice and action deserves.
