This morning, my wife and I reading our iPads at the breakfast table; she–her emails, I the CNN news headlines. She is looking at an old email titled “Only in America” at the exact same moment I notice an absurd headline and blurt out a conclusive “Only in America”, startling her.

Reminds me, 16 years ago, of my mother in a cancer coma, with no apparent consciousness, succumbing finally to death within one hour on the same date several years after my father had died of cancer.
