William Blake was Right

One way to divide a person’s life is between Innocence and Experience.

It is tough for kids to hang on to their innocence these days. They are bombarded by tv, commercials, advertising, computers and smartphones from the get-go to say nothing of being exposed to all kinds of dangers in and out of homes from their parents and others. The world of Experience is very large, encroaching, and menacing.

No question life was simpler in Blake’s time though kids were not recognized as a distinct group–children–with some inherent privileges and rights till later on, and were exploited–especially poor kids–during the Industrial Revolution.

Every kid is entitled to Innocence and to being sheltered from the Big Bad World of (Adult) Experience as long as possible. For as we know, once innocence is lost or changed, it can never be the same or recovered.

Innocence is a special, sacred time and all kids should be allowed to enjoy and explore it as much as possible. Government, parents and K-elementary teachers need to pay special care in looking out for kids.

Edmonton: Officially Closed for Summer

Thanks to Don Iveson and the city, most of Edmonton’s attractions are closed or inaccessible. Getting anywhere in town is a moot point these days anyway with all the roads torn up or closed for construction. This is also the worst summer on record with few hot sunny days, let alone two good days in a row. The weather forecasters fail dismally on a daily basis as climate change has its way with E-Town. I think Don and the boys may as well put up Closed signs at all the entrances to the city.

A Higher Priority than Climate Change?

A higher big-picture priority these daze might be protecting the Earth from destruction by asteroids. 3 zipped by yesterday, 1 closer than the moon. NASA was late in announcing this. A better detecting system needed?

For that matter, I’d rather see the gazillions put into moon launches and space travel redirected into a global system for downing rogue asteroids that could threaten life on Earth at any moment. Misplaced priority IMHO.

The Truth of the E-Trade TV Commercial

As the impressive air drone appears in the office with drinks on a tray it’s carrying for the workers, it then crashes into a wall.

Indeed. So much for brave new technology and certainly the limits and limitedness of drones for deliveries. Whenever this starts up, they’ll be crashing into buildings, houses, telephone wires, people, pets, planes, and other drones. This technology is stupid, dangerous and not foolproof (like self-driving cars).

Remembering My Dad This Morning

Was putting out some of my parents’ leftover items for the weekend garage sale, and came across this poster from their 1989 Mazatlan winter getaway trip. My Dad always loved Spain for its flashy bullfight posters and must have scored this one from a wall (glue marks on edges) when they were in Mexico. I popped out for a Michael’s frame and put the finished poster display in the hallway. Quite dramatic and very much him and his romantic sensibility.

*This is exactly what you want to see to understand how Trump is turning back the clock 55 years on racial hatred and renewing a race war in America.

Talk about Something and Experience Synchronicity

Today I was talking about my Rickenbacker guitar casually out of the blue and then an e-mail greets me when I open my mail with a notice to renew my warranty on it.

Yesterday was talking out of the blue about The Fly original movie. Today David Hedison who was the fly died at 92.
