Spring Walking, E-Town

Dangerous cracks in sidewalks and potholes on roads everywhere.
So much for Don Iveson’s infrastructure maintenance.

Canada’s Tafelmusik

is a wonderful baroque orchestra started back in T.O. in 1979 that plays on period instruments. There dynamic 85+ recordings and 80 concerts a year have made them world-famous. I would highly recommend their Galileo Project: Music of the Spheres which they have performed live with visuals and their beautiful, entertaining House of Dreams (CD-DVD combo) production. Also noteworthy are their Beethoven Symphonies No. 7 & 8 in another CD/DVD package (with them rehearsing and playing live) and the 1st 4 CDs of the Telemann Edition CD box (they play his music excellently).

I first saw the group in the ’80s at Convo Hall, U of A and was knocked out by their intense period sound. The group has tremendous integrity, playing skill, and a unique approach to Baroque music. If you are looking for the best in Canadian classical music, look no further than the titles above and/or check out one of the group’s memorable live performances.

“So Tell Me All About It, RD.”

(A message for the young and the starting-outs)

Well, it’s all very ironic and ambiguous throughout and often absurd. You’ll find people often playing roles rather than being honest. You’ll find myriad control and agenda situations and people. On a bad day, there’ll be complete strangers trying to take you out or swindle you. On a good day, there’ll be much to smile and laugh about, including at yourself.

You’ll find there are numerous conflicts (often unexpected) all the way and that your life may get too materialistic and over-technologized unnecessarily. You’ll find too often that you too easily surrender your autonomy and freedom to others and technology.

If you’re lucky, you’ll have a good family and upbringing and be mostly free without others telling you what to do, feel, and think. Maybe you’ll be lucky enough to be more connected with Nature than with people who could care less whether you live or die.

Other days will be overly-long and hard to get through. Often you’ll focus just on surviving or staying in control of your life.

There is much more to life than money, making money, materialism, nice houses, nice cars over and over–all the material ‘stuff’.

If you’re lucky, you’ll have common sense, good working values, stay focused, and be a decent, responsible person.

If you’re lucky, you’ll get more than enough play, pleasure, and your just deserts.

If you are lucky, you’ll find love or someone true who lasts. Change, communication breakdown, betrayal, lack of trust, irreconcilable differences, and agendas are the great obstacles and setbacks in personal relationships.

If you’re lucky you’ll keep your Inner Child and soul intact into your adult years, and enjoy Nature in its many positive, beautiful, and instructive manifestations.

It’s always important to be conscious of what’s most important and purposeful, and how to spend one’s truly limited time here positively and productively exploring one’s own and the many possibilities, to gain inner satisfaction and fulfillment as well as potential, relative happiness.

Above all, life is possibilities and about possibilities. Less is more, finally. Enjoy and appreciate as much as possible. Did I mention the role of luck? Oh yes, and remember to keep your sense of humor…as long and as much as you can.

Congrats to Jimmy Carter!

The U.S.’s oldest living president and the most moral president the States ever had. The Habitat for Humanity spiritual leader. Humble, decent guy and always for others less fortunate. A total contrast to whatshisname.

Father Abuse

A Montreal statue of John A. MacDonald, father of Canada and Confederation, was vandalized. This wilful act of public vandalism is morally superior to whatever remote context MacDonald lived in? Now that’s non-perspective and a lack of respect, tolerance, and civility.
