Obit: Tom Wolfe, 88

I can still remember reading his first collection of essays, The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby (1965) in 1971 (as the most modern American writer in a 20th century American lit course) and really enjoying his funny Las Vegas essay which captured the sights, sounds, and madness of the strip casinos. Later, I would enjoy his illustrated The Right Stuff book on Chuck Yaeger and the early astronauts.
