violence, inequality, ubiquitous advertising, and non-stop agendas, it is a comfort to know that one’s sensibility and sanity can be restored easily on a Saturday morning by putting on the first CD of the sublime complete Beethoven Masterworks (Deutsche Grammophon). Life without music and musical background is greatly diminished, incomplete, and dispirited. Ah, the positive lift of spirit and palpable soul arising!
